In ME 252 (Mechanical Elements), so far this semester we have focused solely on solving mechanism problems like the one pictured above via graphical methods. Essentially, this is just a graphical representation of vector addition. By drawing lines at certain angles and measuring their lengths we are able to solve for accelerations, velocities, angular velocity, etc. of different points in the mechanism for a given instant. Solving problems this way is very different from all of my previous classes. Up until now, pretty much every class has involved deriving formulas and applying them to solve problems. So far this class has been challenging because its so different. And while it may look simple, I personally find the process of solving these kinds of problems challenging.
